Musculoskeletal Assessments

My Approach

I work by aiming to guide you to restore the natural function of your feet without excessively using orthotics and highly cushioned or supportive footwear. Orthotics can be a great tool to manage foot and ankle conditions, however, unfortunately they can be over prescribed in healthcare. In many cases orthotics can either be avoided completely or used temporarily for a period of time alongside a strengthening period to then get out of them or reduce the amount of wear time in them.

This can help you not only financially but, get rid of a lifelong dependency on something that you may not need to rely on.

Foot and ankle conditions that a musculoskeletal assessment may be helpful for:

  • Bunions

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Mortons neuroma

  • Hallux limitus

  • Hallux rigidus

  • Big toe pain

  • Achilles tendinopathy

  • Arch pain

  • Ankle pain

  • Sinus tarsi syndrome

  • Baxters nerve entrapment

  • Peroneal tendinopathy

  • Forefoot pain

  • Heel pain

  • Ankle sprains

  • Foot and ankle Arthritis

Holistic Foot Health Consultations.

A musculoskeletal assessment, also known as biomechanical assessment, is usually undertaken to look at the the way that we walk and function. This could indicate if there are specific muscle weaknesses or underlying pathologies.

Lower Limb Exercise & Orthotic therapy:

This may be offered as part of a treatment plan for various musculoskeletal pathologies and may include strengthening & stretching routines, taping and footwear advice. Orthotics are used to redistribute load in the foot. Many people are falsely under the impression that orthotics align or correct the foot to the body which is not true. Orthotics can be used for a short period to offload certain conditions but are most likely not needed long term.

I offer appointments for those who are looking to transition to more minimalist footwear and would like advice and strengthening work accompanying this.
